Offsets are not fixed

A time zone is a set of rules, not a single number. New York is UTC-5 in winter and UTC-4 in summer; India is UTC+5:30 all year; Arizona shares Mountain Time's offset in summer but not its clock changes. That is why this converter asks for a date — the answer genuinely depends on it.

Half-hour and quarter-hour zones

Not every offset is a whole number of hours. India and Sri Lanka are +5:30, Nepal is +5:45, parts of Australia are +9:30, and Chatham Island is +12:45. Scheduling logic that assumes whole hours quietly breaks for about a fifth of the world's population.

Planning a meeting

The table shows one instant in ten major zones, which is the quickest way to find a slot that is not the middle of someone's night. As a rule of thumb, 09:00-11:00 UK time reaches most of Europe, India and the US east coast within working hours; nothing reaches both California and Sydney comfortably.

Daylight-saving rules change by legislation, sometimes at short notice. For dates far in the future, confirm before committing.
