What BMR tells you

Your Basal Metabolic Rate is the number of calories your body needs to keep functioning at rest — breathing, circulation, cell production and so on. It's the largest component of your daily calorie burn.

We use the Mifflin-St Jeor equation, widely regarded as the most accurate for the general population:
