area = length × width, converted into every unit you might need
Square feet to square yards
Divide by nine, not by three. A yard is three feet, so a square yard is three feet by three feet — nine square feet. The same trap catches cubic yards, where the divisor is 27.
Carpet and some flooring is still sold by the square yard in the US, which is the main reason the conversion comes up.
